Yes!! Mardi Gras can be for kids! We have a whole day dedicated to kiddos each year during the Second Sunday of festivities. Families are encouraged to come out and enjoy all afternoon parades for FREE!
12pm- Shriners Hospitals for Children & Sunshine Kids Parade
Bring out the entire family for a day full of fun at Family Gras presented by Moody National Bank! The Shriners Hospitals for Children-Galveston & Sunshine Kids Parade will begin at 12:00pm with festive floats and Shriners Clowns and Mini-Cars!
1:30pm- Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade
The 25th Annual Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade will begin at 1:30 pm. Check-in and on-site registration will begin at noon on 21st and Harborside at Pier 21.
This community favorite parade is designed to encourage families to participate in the spirit of Mardi Gras with their beloved pets. While the parade is mostly dogs, there may be cats, chickens, ferrets, a pig, iguanas, a tortoise, and maybe even a pony.
Pets and their humans are encouraged to wear their Mardi Gras finest. A costume contest is planned prior to the start of the parade from 12:15—1:00. Winners will be announced, and ribbons awarded prior to the start of the parade.
3:00pm- Mardi Gras! Firefighters Children’s Parade
Local firefighters and first responders host a parade dedicated to the families and children of Galveston with decorated floats and costumed kids.
Coloring Contest

Attention parents!! We are calling all kids 12 and under to be involved in our Coloring Contest. Get the chance to ride on a float, attend a Family Gras! balcony party AND be in the Galveston Daily News! The Family Gras!
